RGL
RGL (Recharge Gaming League) is a North American League, supporting Highlander and 6v6 with full seasons, Prolander (7v7) PUGs on their Discord, and formerly supporting No Restriction 6s. It is currently the only league to have ever run Prolander. It is currently the premier North American league for both competitive sixes and competitive Highlander.

History[edit]
A number of figures in the Highlander community were playing with the idea of having a class limit of 1 in 6v6 to force the usage of situational classes in competitive. This eventually led to the Challenge Cup in late 2016, a cup with $2,000 USD in prizes which was meant to be 6v6 but was changed to Prolander in the last minute. Sigafoo later created RGL as a league specifically aimed at 7v7. It had a prize pool of $4,000 USD in its opening season, which attracted many high level ESEA Invite players to the league. Prolander was the main format until the first season of Highlander was announced in July of 2018. The league started to become more and more popular, eventually becoming the premier North American Highlander league. Finally, RGL's 6v6 league was introduced in late 2019 after the discontinuation of ESEA's TF2 leagues.
Formats and Divisions[edit]
RGL traditionally runs three seasons a year in the Highlander and 6v6 formats, with cups ran typically between seasons that are used to either bring in new players with Newbie Cups, test out new maps with Map Cups, or have other cups such as the No Restriction 6s Chucklenuts Cup. Each season generally runs through the Spring, Summer, and Fall. Teams are placed into skill divisions based on the combined experience on the roster. Currently, those divisions are as follows:
- Newcomer for players who are completely new to competitive TF2;
- Amateur for players who are not necessarily new but are generally inexperienced;
- Intermediate for players who understand the essentials and are trying to refine their gameplay;
- Main for players who are considered very experienced;
- Advanced, for players who are experts at the game; and
- Invite for the best of the best.
There are also other divisions that were onced used to further divide teams:
- Div-1 and Div-2 replaced Advanced in seasons 3 and 4 of Sixes;
- Challenger was a division between Advanced and Invite in Seasons 8 and 9 of Highlander; and
- Amateur Prime as a second division between Amateur and Intermediate in Sixes Season 1.
RGL notably combined the Main and Advanced divisions into Div-1 for Sixes Season 13 due to lower team count. This combination resulted in the season being delayed by a week, starting on the 24th of September 2023. This Div-1 has the same fees as Main, and uses a weekly map structure like Main and below, making it a non-pick/ban division.
The regular season consists of one match per week for Newcomer and Amateur, and two matches per week for Intermediate and higher, with teams playing against opponents with a similar win/loss streak. For Newcomer to Main, each week's matches are played on a specific map that changes each week. For Advanced and Invite, each match's map is decided via a pick-ban process.
Each division also has fees for joining or moving teams in higher level divisions that are used to fund prize pools and keep the league running. These fees typically start at Intermediate and get more expensive for higher divisions; this is somewhat compensated for by higher prize pools.
Playoffs consist of either the Top 4, Top 6, Top 8, or Top 16 teams in a division, and are played either as a single-elimination or double-elimination bracket depending on division's skill level. All playoff matches are played in a Best of 3 format, with the exception of some division's Grand Finals. In Invite and Advanced 6v6, the Grand Finals is a best of 5 where the team entering from the upper bracket starts with a map advantage. In Invite and Advanced Highlander, the Grand Finals is a best of 3 match where if the team entering from the lower bracket wins the best of 3, they cause a bracket reset and need to win a second best of 3 to win the Finals.
Games on any given map are played in multiple halves, with win conditions differing depending on the game type:
- On 5CP maps, halves are played for a maximum of 30 minutes each. The first half ends either when the time is up, or a team reaches 3 rounds won. The second half ends when time is up, or a team reaches 5 'total' rounds won. If time runs out in the second half, the team with the most rounds won will win. If the score is tied, the game proceeds to a Golden Cap, which is a single round with no time limit. Whoever wins the Golden Cap wins the match.
- On King of the Hill maps, each half when one team wins 2 rounds. The game ends when one team reaches 4 total round wins.
- Attack/Defend and Payload maps are played as best of 3 stopwatch rounds. Teams alternate between attacking and defending every round, and each team defends once in a half. The round is won by whichever team captures the most points the fastest.
Highlander (9v9)[edit]
Highlander is traditionally played on Payload and King of the Hill maps, with a notable exception of cp_steel as the sole Attack/Defend map. It has only been offered by RGL in North America.

Prolander (7v7)[edit]
Due to the boost in popularity for the 6v6 and HL leagues and lack of popularity for Prolander, seasons are more spread out. Unlike Highlander and 6v6, Prolander was offered in EU during earlier seasons.
