The season began shortly after the conclusion of the previous one, without any major upsets or issues. The map vote was decided to be repeated after the community showed their support for ctf_turbine_pro and koth_pro_viaduct to be added to the poll. Despite that change, the results of both polls have been almost identical, and as such, the season saw the reintroduction of cp_freight_final1 into the pool, to the major consternation from the community. A special playoff rule also had its moment, as cp_foundry was to be played as a decider map in all of the playoffs matches. This decision was later retracted and the top 5 maps from the map poll could be chosen for all playoff matches (cp_freight_final1 was cut).

The ruleset also underwent some cosmetical changes. One of the first steps towards the league’s stance on sportsmanship has been made, as from that point you were expected to extend the courtesy of allowing a merc should your opponents allow one of yours. A similar paragraph was added in regards to pausing during official matches. As a consequence of the arguments over a handful of FoV enhancing plugins emerging on the forums, a bug with camera rendering and whether the increased FoV limit should be considered an unfair advantage, the league decided that Valve’s immediate reaction to the issue, sv_restrict_aspect_ratio_fov, should be disabled, which allowed the users of multiple screen technologies to run the game with increased field of view without the need to use the aforementioned plugins.

Season 11 was also a very important one for ETF2L, as in February 2012, the league has partnered up with Tt eSPORTS, the gaming gear manufacturer, also supporting a handful of well-known gaming teams from many different games. The partnership allowed the league to introduce even better prizes and coverage, as ETF2L have taken big steps forward in the upcoming months.

Worth mentioning is the fact, that the season hosted the most recent playoffs during which Epsilon eSports have not ended up finishing at the first place. Team Infused, after a solid and highly entertaining battle against them, managed to break the curse of “forever second”, taking the championship and going strong into the next season.

Maps

The maps were voted directly by the ETF2L users. The first poll did not include the maps koth_pro_viaduct and ctf_turbine_pro because they performed poorly in the previous season's poll. The poll was repeated with these two maps instead of the bottom 3 maps from the previous poll, after a vocal part of the community asked for these specific two maps. 1,024 users took part in first Season 11 map vote with a total of 5,769 given votes. The second try had 1,195 voters with 6,571 votes. Each user could choose up to 6 maps.
