Competitive Team Fortress 2
In Competitive TF2 there are two main game modes: Highlander (9 vs 9) and Sixes (6 vs 6). Although these two game modes are the most common, they are not the only ones. Many members of the community make their own game modes, such as Ultiduo, BBall, Dodgeball and many others.
Highlander
In the game mode Highlander there are two teams of 9 players each, one of every class. In a Highlander or HL match, teams play a variety of maps and modes, such as: Payload, Control Points and King of the Hill. Highlander is played in North America, South America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Asia. The two main leagues for Highlander are UGC Highlander, for North America(and some EU) and ETF2 League, for Europe.
UGC Highlander
UGC Highlander can be found here: (http://ugcleague.com/home_tf2h.cfm). In the UGC League there are five divisions that teams may join: Platinum, Gold, Silver, Steel and Iron (in order from Highest to Lowest). UGC League also hosts some European Highlander, but it's European league is not as big as ETF2L's league.
ETF2L Highlander
ETF2L Highlander can be found here: (http://etf2l.org/leagues/recent-seasons/highlander-season-4-home/). In ETF2L there are seven divisions that teams may join, but there may only be six teams per division: Premiership, Div 1, Div 2, Div 3, Div 4, Div 5, and Div 6(in order from Highest to Lowest). ETF2L does not support North America and is mainly used for the European Competitive scene.
Sixes
In the game mode of Sixes there are two teams of 6 players each. The standard setup for 6 vs 6 is as follows: 2 Scouts, 2 Soldiers, 1 Demo and 1 Medic. Other classes are allowed, but are restricted in their numbers. In Sixes you will find that the only modes played are Control Points and King of the Hill. Sixes is played in North America, South America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Asia. The three main leagues for Sixes are UGC Sixes and ESEA Sixes for North America, and ETF2L for Europe.
