The Insomnia58 Team Fortress 2 Open, commonly referred to as Insomnia58 or simply i58, is the successor to i55 and part of the Insomnia Gaming LAN Series hosted by Multiplay. It is considered to be the premier Team Fortress 2 tournament for the calendar year, featuring the best teams from across the globe in a head-to-head tournament. The event will be held at The NEC in Birmingham, England from the 26th to the 28th of August 2016.[1] An initial £5,000 prize pool was confirmed in mid-April 2016,[2] and this was expanded to £8,500 after contributions from scrap.tf[3] and OCZ[4]
froyotech are the defending champions, having won the previous i55 edition.[5] Online showmatches were organised in order to raise funds for Full Tilt and froyotech to attend the event.
Showmatch
On 9 August a showmatch between Full Tilt and Crowns eSports Club, organised by teamfortress.tv, was held in order to help raise funds for the teams to attend the event.[6] Another fundraiser showmatch was attempted between froyotech and Full Tilt, but failed.[7]
