Esports Arena Rewind LAN 2017, commonly referred to as Rewind 2017, was the first Esports Arena Team Fortress 2 tournament. It was a 6v6 LAN event, held at the Esports Arena in Santa Ana, California, United States from 21 January 2017 to 22 January 2017.[1] Rewind 2017 is extremely notable for being the first intercontinental LAN event outside of the Insomnia Gaming Festival, and the first intercontinental LAN in North America. It was held very close to the median date between Insomnia58 and the projected date for Insomnia61, creating a bi-annual period for global 6v6 Team Fortress tournaments. Two non-North American teams attended the event, Se7en from Europe and Jasmine Tea from Australia.[2]
Rewind 2017 was split into two divisions, Invite and Open. The format for the Invite division consisted of a six team round robin group stage proceeded by a double-elimination bracket. The prize pool was contributed to by the organisers Esports Arena, Marketplace.tf and crowdfunding.[1][3] Prominent community figures b4nny and samiface were heavily involved in the organisation of the event.
Se7en, having won the latest intercontental event Insomnia58 (as Crowns eSports Club) were eliminated by froyotech following a five map Grand Final. Jasmine Tea finished fourth, unable to break the infamous "curse" of Australian teams finishing fourth at intercontenental events.
Tournament details
Prize pool
The initial prize pool was announced by on 3 December 2016, consisting of $7,000 USD contributed by Esports Arena ($2,000) and Marketplace.tf ($5,000).[1][3] This was further increased by crowdfunding, which raised $1,192 for the invite division,[4] bringing the total prize pool to $8,192.
Place | USD | Team |
---|---|---|
1st | $3,686 | froyotech |
2nd | $2,048 | Se7en |
3rd | $1,434 | EVL Gaming |
4th | $1,024 | Jasmine Tea |
Map pool
The map pool for Rewind 2017 was announced on teamfortress.tv on 21 January 2017.[5] It was slightly different from the map pool used in ESEA Season 23, with Metalworks being excluded and updated versions for Snakewater and Sunshine being used. Whilst the most recent version of Snakewater at the time was cp_snakewater_final1
, the tournament used a previous version, cp_snakewater_u13
.
Ruleset
The ruleset was initially released by b4nny on 19 December 2016, originally with a 45 minute win limit.[6] This was later reduced to a 30 minute win limit on 5 January 2017 due to scheduling concerns.[7] The resulting ruleset for the tournament was the same as that used in the North American ESEA league. Each team was also given two 120 second tactical pauses for every map.[7]
