Season 9 was the 10th season of ETF2L's 6v6 league. It was also the most controversial season, with several high tier teams boycotting ETF2L in favour of ESL Season VII. The boycott emerged after the ETF2L staff introduced the "Cinnamon" unlock ruleset, which featured a limited amount of unlocks for the main combat classes (Scout, Soldier, Demoman and Heavy) and, with some exceptions, all unlocks for support classes, in contrast to the "Vanilla" ruleset (no unlocks except for some medic items) that many players demanded at that time. On top, several people were not happy with the map selection for Season 9, which featured cp_bazillion and cp_obscure but not cp_snakewater, which was winning over more and more supporters in the European scene. Top teams that took part in the boycott included Power Gaming, Team Dignitas, Epsilon eSports and YoYoTech. In the end, all but 3 teams in the Premiership Division dropped from the season. Overall, this season had the highest drop rate of all seasons (32%).
