The Scattergun is a stock primary weapon that is usable by the Scout, and is allowed in both 6v6 and 9v9 competitive formats across almost every league. This weapon is considered to be most commonly used by Scouts than any other primary weapon available in the competitive environment. The Scattergun(commonly referred to as "Scatter") is famous for dealing out Meatshots.

History
The Scattergun is a stock weapon for the Scout class. The weapon was introduced with the release of Team Fortress 2. The weapon had been used in competitive since TF2 was released. Many find it to have some of the most reliable high damage outputs for a Hitscan weapon. The Scatter was quickly brought into play, and still is today.

Availability and Use
Because the Scatter is a stock weapon, it is available to every TF2 player. The weapon is known for its high damage output at close ranges, with less damage as the range increases. In a competitive format, there is usually no weapon spread found with this weapon; this allows for the reliability of the weapon to increase and for players to feel consistency with its use. The weapon is considered the most widely used primary for the Scout compared to other primaries.
